Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes)
Visiting Denali National Park, at the parking area for the Savage River trail I noticed across the river the Short-billed Gulls were making a fuss over something in the dense willow/birch brush, which is something they’ll do when a predator is near. I was thinking it could be a fox, coyote, wolf, wolverine, or bear... let’s go see!
Once I reached the restrooms on the opposite side of the river the fox walked out of the brush and sat for a portrait. From my standing height the background was gravel so I sat too, to get some green in the background.

North American River Otter (Lontra canadensis)
Otters are occasional visitors to this pond at Sailor Bar County Park where there is an abundance of fish and crayfish. Otters spend a lot of time grooming to maintain water repellant fur, which is what this otter was doing before diving back into the water. The camera I was using at the time could make no more than 2 exposures per second so instead of relying on a rapid burst of multiple exposures to photograph the moment the otter touched the water I attribute the exquisite timing to pure dumb luck.
